The picker changes the dark modules only. The background stays white on purpose — scanners need a light field behind dark modules to find the code at all.

These are static codes, and that cuts both ways
The content is baked into the pattern itself. There is no redirect in the middle, no short link, no account behind it. Nothing here records what you encoded.
So it never expires, nobody counts the scans, and it keeps working whether or not this site is still around in five years. That is the opposite of the "dynamic" codes sold on subscription, which route every scan through a third-party domain that can go away, throttle you, or start charging.
The cost is that a printed code is final — you cannot repoint it later. If the destination might move, do not encode the destination. Encode a URL on a domain you control and change the redirect on your side. The code stays valid forever and you keep the ability to change your mind.
One text box, but phones understand more than links
The input accepts any text, and phone cameras recognize a handful of standard prefixes. Type them by hand, exactly as written, punctuation included.

Contrast, quiet zone and the logo question
Codes here are generated at error-correction level M, which lets a scanner rebuild roughly fifteen percent of a damaged code. That is why a small logo dropped over the center usually still scans and a large one does not. This tool does not add logos — if you overlay one in a graphics editor, test the result on two different phones before it goes to print.
The white border is four modules wide and is part of the code, not padding. Cropping it off, or laying the code flush onto a photo background, is the single most common reason a printed code refuses to scan.
Keep the color dark. Pale yellows and light grays fail because the camera cannot separate the modules from the background. Inverting the whole thing — light code on a dark field — breaks a lot of scanners too, which is why the background stays white here.

Sizing it for print
The working rule of thumb is ten to one: a code should be about a tenth as wide as the distance it will be scanned from. Two inches across for a table tent read at arm's length; roughly a foot for a window poster read from ten feet away.
Content length works against you here. More characters means more modules in the same square, so each module gets physically smaller at a given print size and the camera needs to be closer or steadier. A short URL scans from across a room; a 200-character paragraph will not.
At 300 dpi the PNG prints cleanly to about three and a half inches. Anything larger than that — a poster, a window decal, a vehicle graphic — should be the SVG, which has no resolution at all and stays sharp at any size.
Frequently asked questions
Does the QR code expire?
No. The generated code is a static image pointing straight at your content. It works as long as the destination exists.
Can I use it commercially?
Yes. No watermark, no sign-up, no usage restriction, and the code never passes through a redirector of ours.
What size should I use for print?
Download the SVG — it is vector and stays sharp at any scale. For print, avoid codes smaller than 2 centimetres.
Is my QR content logged?
No. Generation happens entirely in the browser — the text or link you type never leaves your device.
Can I see how many people scanned my code?
No, and nothing here could. The code is drawn in your browser and never registered anywhere. If you need scan counts, point the code at a link you already measure — your own analytics or a tracked short link. The QR is only the address.
Can I get the code with a transparent or colored background?
Both downloads come with a white background, deliberately: reliable scanning needs dark modules on a light field. To put one on a colored card, place the white square on the card and leave the margin intact. In the SVG, the background is a single rect element you can edit in a vector app if you know the surface behind it is light.
How much text fits in one code?
The generator automatically picks the smallest code version that fits your text, topping out in the low thousands of characters at this error-correction level. Long before you reach that limit the grid becomes too dense to scan comfortably in print — for anything going on paper, keep it under a couple of hundred characters.
Can I make a QR code for a PDF or an image file?
Only indirectly. A QR code carries text, not files. Put the PDF somewhere it has a web address — cloud storage, your own site — and encode that link.
